MONOslow: When Wine Invites You to Slow Down
On Sunday, October 18, the International Games & History Convention invites you to discover a winery where wine, gastronomy and the art of living come together around one simple philosophy: taking the time to enjoy.
There are places you visit to discover. And then there are places that immediately make you want to slow down.
At the foot of Mount Hegyestű, in the heart of the Káli Basin, MONOslow is one of them.
Our partner will be at the Convention on Sunday, October 18, 2026, offering visitors a free wine tasting, with the opportunity to purchase the wines presented.
It is a wonderful opportunity to discover, right here in Budapest, some of the wines of a young estate that is already deeply rooted in its land and its surroundings.
A place where time takes on a different meaning
MONOslow was born from a philosophy inspired by slow tourism and slow dining: the idea that the best experiences need time.
In the heart of the Káli Basin, the estate brings together wine, gastronomy, accommodation and the art of living. Set in a historic building with Provençal touches, MONOslow offers Franco-Hungarian cuisine, Balaton wines and a terrace where visitors can simply forget, for a moment, the urgency of everyday life.
The estate has around 5 hectares of vineyards, currently undergoing conversion to organic farming. This approach reflects a desire to work in harmony with nature and allow the character of the terroir to express itself.
At MONOslow, the winemaking philosophy is also rooted in patience and craftsmanship: allowing flavours to develop naturally, rather than forcing them. The estate describes its wines as elegant, pure and authentic, reflecting the landscape that surrounds them.
Three wines, three ways to discover the Balaton
MONOslow’s current range already offers several different expressions of the region's vineyards.
🍇 Basalt 337 – Irsai Olivér 2024
Irsai Olivér is a particularly aromatic Hungarian grape variety, known for its floral and fruity character.
MONOslow produces its own expression of this variety, Basalt 337 – Irsai Olivér 2024 — a wine that beautifully illustrates the dialogue between the grape and the volcanic landscape of the region.
Irsai Olivér also holds a special place at MONOslow: the estate uses its own wine in the kitchen, including for its famous Irsai Olivér cake, made with the estate’s own wine.
🍷 MONOslow Olaszrizling 2024
Another key wine in the range is Olaszrizling, a grape variety widely planted in the vineyards around Lake Balaton.
With its 2024 vintage, MONOslow offers another expression of its terroir: a white wine that provides an opportunity to discover a variety deeply connected with the region’s wine culture.
Its Hungarian name can be misleading: despite its name, Olaszrizling is not Italian Riesling. It is a traditional Central European grape variety that is particularly well established around Lake Balaton.
🌸 MONOslow Rosé – Kékfrankos 2024
For something lighter, MONOslow also offers a rosé made from Kékfrankos, one of the great red grape varieties of Central Europe.
The MONOslow Rosé – Kékfrankos 2024 completes the range with a wine designed around freshness and conviviality.
Three bottles, three personalities: the aromatic Irsai Olivér, the Olaszrizling so closely associated with the Balaton, and Kékfrankos in a fresh rosé interpretation.
It is this experience that MONOslow will bring to visitors at the Convention.
A little piece of the Káli Basin in Budapest
The Káli Basin is one of the most distinctive areas around Lake Balaton: vineyards, small villages, volcanic landscapes and preserved natural surroundings create a setting far removed from the image of the lake’s lively holiday resorts.
Very close to MONOslow stands Hegyestű, a spectacular remnant of ancient volcanic activity and one of the region’s iconic landscapes.
This connection with nature is an essential part of the estate’s identity. Here, people come to walk, admire the landscape, sit on a terrace… and discover that there is always time for one more glass of wine.
A Franco-Hungarian connection
This partnership also has a special meaning for the Convention.
Hanna Szabó, Co-Founder & Co-CEO of MONOslow Wine Estate | Strategy Director, was a student at the Lycée français Gustave Eiffel in Budapest.
Her journey reflects the kind of connections we want to highlight through the Convention: bridges between Hungary and the French-speaking community, between heritage, culture, gastronomy and encounters.
And this time, the meeting will take place over a glass of wine.
