Budapest 1899: Discover the Mysteries of Budapest with Dragonmount Press

A role-playing game, a fascinating historical Budapest, and a crowdfunding campaign currently underway
At the International Convention of Games and History, we are particularly interested in games that offer new ways of discovering and experiencing history.
So when Dragonmount Press agreed to join us, we were delighted. Their current project takes us to a city we know well… but to a Budapest from a very different time, where the streets, cafés and grand buildings could hide some very unusual secrets.
On Saturday, October 17, Dragonmount Press will be with us throughout the day, with two demonstration tables.
The first will be dedicated to Budapest 1899, their new role-playing game, which is currently the subject of an active crowdfunding campaign on Gamefound.
Budapest, 1899: another side of the capital
Imagine Budapest at the end of the 19th century.
The city is undergoing an extraordinary transformation. Grand buildings are rising, cafés are becoming essential meeting places, new boulevards are developing, and Budapest is establishing itself as one of Central Europe's great capitals.
But behind this modern and vibrant city lies another world.
A world of legends, folklore, superstition, magic and unexplained phenomena.
This is the Budapest of Budapest 1899.
The game invites players to take on the roles of characters caught up in mysterious investigations, somewhere between the real and the supernatural. Drawing on the atmosphere and history of the Hungarian capital, the game creates a world where players must examine clues, investigate, interpret what they discover and try to understand what is really happening.
And that is one of the things we particularly like about the project:
Budapest isn't simply the setting. It is part of the experience.

🎲 Budapest 1899 is currently crowdfunding
And this is an especially exciting time to discover the game.
Budapest 1899 is currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Gamefound.
For an independent publisher like Dragonmount Press, crowdfunding is an important step: it is the opportunity to turn a project developed with passion into a finished, published game.
That's why the Convention is coming at a particularly good moment.
Visitors will be able to see the game, meet the people behind it, discover the universe around a table and talk directly with the team — rather than simply seeing a few pictures online.
And if you fall in love with the project, you can also support it while the crowdfunding campaign is still running.
Meet the creators and discover the game
Throughout Saturday, October 17, the Dragonmount Press team will be available at the Budapest 1899 table.
You will be able to:
discover the universe of the game;
learn more about Budapest at the end of the 19th century;
discover its approach to investigation and role-playing;
talk directly with the creators;
learn about the development of the project;
and, of course, find out more about the ongoing Gamefound campaign.
Whether you are an experienced role-player or have never played a role-playing game before, you're welcome to simply stop by, have a chat and see what Budapest 1899 is all about.
Dragonmount Press: a second table to discover their other games
But Dragonmount Press isn't coming to the Convention with Budapest 1899 alone.
A second demonstration table will showcase some of their other games and creations.
It will be a chance to discover the wider work of this independent team and talk directly with them about their approach to game design and publishing.
Because this is also what the Convention is about:
bringing players and creators together.
When Budapest becomes a playground
There is something particularly fitting about presenting Budapest 1899 at a Convention dedicated to games and history.
Our goal isn't simply to recreate the past.
We want to show how games can allow us to look at history from different perspectives, understand places and periods, tell stories — and sometimes discover a city we thought we already knew.
With Budapest 1899, Dragonmount Press offers exactly that:
a journey into a historical Budapest, but also into its imagination, legends and mysteries.
So whether you are a role-playing enthusiast, a history lover, fascinated by Budapest, or simply curious...
come and discover Budapest 1899 on Saturday, October 17, at the Convention.
And if the game catches your attention, you can even help bring it to life by supporting its crowdfunding campaign currently running on Gamefound.
